I Left My {Heart} In San Francisco #2

Wednesday (7.6.11)
This was our first taste of really "exploring" the city of San Francisco.  Our true mission of the day was to get on a cable car & go wherever it took us.  ;)  Basically, we knew that SF was known for this type of transportation & it was obviously a must-do during the vacay.  I was anxious & wanted to do it TODAY.  The best part - the cable car pick-up/drop-off was outside our hotel door! That was such a blessing! We quickly invested in a 3-day pass for both of us (Reddington was free).  We could ride as much or as little as we wanted for $21 each ($42 total).  Each ride was $6 so it was definitely worth the unlimited pass.  We used the passes multiple times each day & got our money's worth.
Our first stops were Urban Outfitters & Anthropologie.  We just enjoyed walking around the Union Square area & the freedom of no plans on our first full day in SF.  We scored some great deals at Old Navy where the majority of the store was marked 75% off.  Too good to pass up even if it is ON!  We ventured to Westfield Mall where we enjoyed our very first taste of gelato (an ancient Italian frozen dessert - similar to ice cream).  It was delicious! Our dessert was followed by a nap at the hotel for all three of us.  I compared our bed to a "bed of marshmallows."  If you laid down at any point, you could instantly fall asleep.  It was bliss!
That evening we headed down to Fisherman's Wharf for the first time & enjoyed eating some In & Out for dinner.  It was Nathan & Reddington's first time to experience this fabulous West Coast cuisine. Ha!  I love the funny faces Reddington is making in some of the pics.  He was dressed for the occassion in his Paul Frank 'cheeseburger shirt.'  Nathan wasn't overly impressed.  My comment, "You must want a fancy sit-down place & to be waited on.  This is not that kind of place.  It is what it is, so enjoy it!"  He actually had a bit better attitude about it after that.  :)
This evening by the Bay was very cool.  We were thankful for long sleeves and pants.  Keep in mind, the average temp during our visit was about 65-70 degrees plus the breeze from the water.  HoltFam3 LOVED the weather.  Since we were sightseeing & not sitting on the beach, we were thrilled with these temps.  Nathan is a "fall weather" kind of guy so he was in heaven!  We finished the evening with a walk along the water trying to catch a glimpse of Alcatraz which is about a mile off the coast. We were so anxious for our upcoming visit to "THE ROCK."
