A Milestone... 9.17.2011

Reddington started "Potty Training" on September 17th.  He is not quite there - - yet - - but we are sticking with it and he is making progress.  He has between 1-2 accidents per day between the babysitter's house & home.  We hope he continues to improve.  We are surprised at how great he is doing, already.  On Sept 28th he was successful at staying dry from the time I wake him (6:15 a.m.) until nap time (1 p.m.)  When Stacey text me to tell me this I was SO HAPPY.  His first time since it all began to not have a single accident in that period of time.  He then continued the rest of the evening at home with ZERO accidents.  What an exciting day in the life of a 2 year old & his parents!  :)  I see how it can definitely be a long, frustrating lesson for a child to learn.  We are focusing on the positives, rewarding when he does what he's supposed to, & keeping in mind that he is still learning & he WILL make mistakes.  He does wear a diaper during nap time & bed time only.
*For him, the instant reward is HUGE.  After going he immediately receives a few M & M's or a small treat.  I definitely believe the instant gratification has made him successful.  He gets so excited about a "treat!"  Also, once we started we knew we were going to stick with it.  No starting & stopping & starting, again.  He loves picking out his character undies of choice & is enjoying the sweet success that his parents go crazy about.  He has been such a trooper & we are so proud of him.  I know that different things work for different kids but these are just some of my thoughts/opinions on this topic.  (Pictures were taken the day that all this madness pottytraining began. (9.17.11) We stayed home almost the entire day & just "set up potty" in the living room. Ha!

Hopefully going from "potty training" to "potty trained" SOON,
