Finally! I'm so glad that the "Big Boy Room" is complete just in time to "give" it to Reddington as his Christmas gift. We decided awhile back when starting the room that our deadline could be Christmas & that it could be his present. Although we have tried to be resourceful and everything in the room is diy projects (do it yourself) there was some cost involved such as paint & materials. I absolutely could not have done this without my hubby. He actually took a couple of vacation days to do his projects since the deadline was days away & they weren't complete. :) For me, this was definitely a labor of love. Reddington is pure delight & joy to us. I am blessed beyond measure to be his mom & count it as a priviledge. I sure didn't deserve a loving boy like this who says, "I want to kiss you on the cheek & give you a hug" every morning when I drop him off. There is nothing better.
Without further ado, I present to you Rustic Wilderness:
{Behind the tent when it is out}
Before pictures of the room
Headboard: made of unfinished wood pieces & hung by Nathan- I freehanded "joyful" after taking a poll on facebook for a word that describes a 2- almost 3 year old- boy.
Pillows: made by a family friend, Kay, & myself
Pennant Banner: I made it using left over material from other projects
Bedside Table: tree trunk taken from our fire pit area, covered in Elmer's spray adhesive so that it wouldn't constantly chip off pieces of dirt/wood. Lamp: was in Reddington's nursery- I am still on the hunt for a bright red lampshade for it
Book Shelves: Nathan cut a wood pallet to create these
Tent: Nathan used a diy tutorial from pinterest, will be stored behind the door when not in use
Dresser: This was already in the room & needed to stay. I painted an old door wood to set on top to replace the girl-y looking vanity mirror- birdcage & white window from a rummage sale- Want to add to the dresser as necessary so I kept it pretty empty
Swing: Made & hung by Nathan
Height Chart: Made by our family friend, Kay- Reddington was exactly 3 ft when we measured him on 12/17/11.
Wallpaper: Since it's 'coming back' I really wanted it in my house so I went for it in this room- Grey/white stripe purchased online & hung by a friend from church. He did a great job & I love it!
Redd's Lodge Painting
Gallery Wall: Some ideas mentioned here, most were diy ideas that I had saved over time & was able to create for this space. The antlers were from a Whitetail Buck shot in 2009 & I purchased the mounted set from a friend from church (same friend that hung wallpaper)
Shelf: Gathered over time- some were brought back from Kansas when we visited last summer for my Grandpa Bill's funeral, other were from this or that & I added them to the shelf
*Reddington: This is his main Christmas gift. I tried to do the finishing touches, add the tent, & have Nathan hang the swing without him around but it was impossible- as you can see from the last picture! I guess you could say Santa came early! He will open a gifts from us closer to Christmas including quite a few books I purchased from a friend's rummage sale & some sort of Monster Truck toy that Nathan picked up for him. :) Reddington loves his room. He has been asking to go to bed. Gasp!
Any other questions? I know I didn't cover everything. Leave me a comment or email me at holtm@sullivan.k12.il.us
