Why San Fran?
Back story: Nathan & I have difficulty agreeing on a lot of things. If the phrase "Opposites Attract" is true, than we are IT. Nathan would prefer a vacation involving four-wheeling, lots of mud, you get the idea. I, on the other hand, prefer sight-seeing, shopping, relaxing, sun, etc... As a family of 3, we have not ever been on a real "vacation" outside the state of IL & longer than a weekend.
Here goes...My Dad & I were discussing Alcatraz & he mentioned that it may not be open "forever" because the prison is constantly in need of attention & rebuilding. After that discussion with him, I decided to bring it back up to him when Nathan was around just to see what he thought. I would instantly know how he felt about traveling there by his reaction. So, a few days later, my Dad stopped by. I brought up the previous conversation regarding Alcatraz & Nathan chimed right in, as if on cue, with "Visiting Alcatraz would be AWESOME!" Keep in mind, my husband doesn't get too upset or excited about anything. I was thinking jackpot! Sure, we could go back to Florida or Mexico or somewhere like that for a heck of a lot less money, I suppose. BUT, we are both interested in seeing the world! We've been to those places & desire to go somwhere new & unfamilar. And so it began - - - preparations, that is, to visit Alcatraz this summer as our family vacation. Nathan always went on family vacations growing up & I did, as well. We've known our entire marriage that vacation was a priority but after 7 years of marriage, we are finally making it a priority since we've added a Little to the family.
The other side of this is that at age 2, Reddington will enjoy seeing everything & the experience but he is not old enough to want a "kid-centered vacay" if that makes sense. Yes, we will do Disney & those sorts of places in the future but at his age, we feel that he will enjoy this & go along for the ride. As he gets older, our vacations will need to be more centered on his type of activites so we're trying to enjoy this little bit of time that we have to do more "adult/sightseeing" activities while we can.
Our plan is to do a variety of things. We will be renting a car to see the Redwoods, chowing down on some In-N-Out, shopping, visiting the "Full House" house, riding the Cable Car, eating dessert at Ghiradelli Square, maybe a stop at Fisherman's Wharf, & whatever else we decide to do, including our Alcatraz visit. This will be my 2nd visit to Cali, but Nathan & Reddington's 1st visit.
We couldn't be more excited to visit the West Coast together!
Countdown: 1 Month & 2 Days
